Summary
The goal of this project is to build a news/discussion site that is accessible to the wider public and has these desirable features:
- Stories and articles are submitted by the readership rather than by editors.
- Stories can be discussed using a self-moderation system to prevent abuse.
Further feature wishes
- phm: user authentication data should be those of FFII, not separate registry in wikidot.com
- ph: the goal is to eventually host the wikifarm ourselves, so we can then use our own authentication data
- phm: can't wikidot.com use a auth_user file from our site for a start?
- phm: basic functions, including login and editing, should be available without javascript; if i have to edit pages with a web browser, I at least want to use emacs-w3m.
- ph: I tend to make complex edits offline, in my own editor, then cut/paste back into the wiki
- ph: I'll ask Michal if he could foresee a non-javascript version of the interface
- phm: the wiki language is really nice, i'd like to use the converter as a standalone parser similar to txt2html on the unix shell command line.
- ph: I've made a request at the wikidot forums.
Naming proposals
phm: http://news.ffii.org
- phm: project acronym: digimaj [ph:done]
phm: urls of articles should have date in them, e.g. instead of http://digitalmajority.org/forum/t-397/patent-war-heats-up-again rather /06/09/21/patent-war-heats-up-again, or even, if the author/editor provides a shorthand such as 'patwar', /06/09/21/patwar
